Guiding Star

A compass for all life

Guiding Star — six universals in relationship

Our highest common ground — six conditions of thriving

← Back to Home

The Guiding Star exists to be a connector, not a replacement. The world already holds an abundance of visions, frameworks, tools and wisdom for global thriving and regenerative change — across cultures, disciplines and generations — nothing here is meant to compete with any of it, improve on it, or stand in front of it.

What’s been missing is not the insight. It is the language — simple, felt and universal — that gives every person, everywhere, a frame to shape their own vision, in their own way, toward collective thriving.

For a vision to move people, it must be felt before it is understood.

“Imagine a world where nothing and no one stands alone
every living thing has enough,
every being belongs,
every life has meaning,
every living thing thrives,
all life is treated fairly,
we grow through wisdom,
we give more than we take,
we steward the living world in trust across generations,
knowing a healthy world is the foundation for all life.”

One direction, many ways

Our Highest Common Ground

The Six Universals

Drawn from indigenous cosmologies, modern science, philosophy and international law — six conditions that every tradition holds, in every culture, across time. Not proposals. Observations.

Purpose
What we’re here to contribute — where real meaning and fulfillment are found.

Purpose is a direction, not a destination — what we’re here to give, and where real meaning is made. Contribution without meaning is just task completion. Meaning without contribution is longing without direction. Real purpose is where the two meet.

When It’s Missing

It feels like going through the motions — busy, capable, and disconnected from why any of it matters.

Wisdom
Learning across time — what feels true tested against what history, other people, and the world already revealed.

Wisdom holds every way of knowing — what we feel in our depths, what’s been lived and passed down, and what evidence and history actually show — and tests them against each other, rather than letting any one of them claim the whole truth alone.

When It’s Missing

It looks like refusing to see what’s already plainly in front of us.

Belonging
Seen, heard, valued, safe to be who we are — meaningful connections that equally embrace our similarities and our differences.

Belonging is felt, not declared, and it starts with being genuinely cared for, not just spoken of kindly. It isn’t real if it depends on someone else being left out — every exclusive group can offer intense belonging to insiders exactly by excluding everyone else. That isn’t what this means.

When It’s Missing

It feels like disconnection — cut off from ourselves, from each other, or from anything larger, even in a crowded room.

Regeneration
Giving more than we take — leaving things healthier than we found them.

Regeneration tests whether an exchange actually gave back more than it took, in practice, not just in the story we tell about it. It applies to people as much as to soil or water — running people past what’s sustainable is extraction too, even when it looks like productivity.

When It’s Missing

It shows up as slow depletion — of soil, of trust, of people — easy to miss until it’s already gone too far.

Health
Vibrant life in every living thing — thriving, not just surviving, and free from harm.

Health is the felt experience of being well — in body, mind and spirit for a person, or the aliveness of any living system. It’s possible to have every material need met and still not be well. Health is what catches that.

When It’s Missing

It isn’t just tiredness or the absence of wellness. It’s harm — real damage to bodies, minds or living systems.

Fairness
For all life, without exception — including everyone’s right to choose their own path.

Fairness is a test applied to a system, not a quality it gets to claim for itself: does this actually hold for everyone it touches, including those who can’t speak up for themselves, and does everyone affected keep the right to choose their own path.

When It’s Missing

It looks like domination — someone deciding, for everyone else, who gets to have enough and who doesn’t.

You don’t need a diagnosis to notice when one of these isn’t there — you can feel it. Use the six, light and shadow together, as a plain compass. The fuller picture, how the six missing states connect to and deepen each other, is coming soon in the Field Guide.

An Invitation to Test, Question, and Shape What’s Emerging

This is not a finished framework. It is an emerging one — and it names itself that way on purpose.

The shape feels right. The six universals have held up to serious interrogation — philosophical, scientific, cultural, legal, ecological. But whether it holds across the full breadth of environments and circumstances it’s intended for — that’s what we’re now actively seeking to find out. Download the Workbook, take it somewhere real, and tell us what you find.

Share what you find — what holds, what doesn’t, what you wish was there. Every environment you test it in teaches us something we couldn’t have learned sitting still.
